Educating Students about Inventory Tracking Overview:

Our latest client in need of a barcode and tracking solution was a little different than most. They were not looking to track an active inventory for a company, but rather they were attempting to set up a simulation environment for students to learn the ins and outs of inventory/warehouse management. The client wanted to find an ideal, easy to use solution that could help educate countless students on picking and pulling inventory while maintaining accurate counts.

Educating Students about Inventory Tracking Problem:

While there was no specific set of problems plaguing this client, they did have several goals in mind for their project. They knew they needed to be able to issue pick orders to specific students that they would need to properly fulfill. They also wanted to ensure the students knew how to properly conduct and reconcile cycle counts and audits within the system.

We demonstrated Wasp Inventory Control to the client and focused on the core features they had brought up during our preliminary conversations. However, during the course of the demonstration we uncovered several other areas of the software that our client felt were must-haves for any educational experience in teaching someone about inventory management. The assembly feature, which allows for a brand new item to be created from component items already tracked within the system, proved to be one such feature. Our client felt it would be invaluable for their students to understand how to check “buildable” quantities against existing inventory levels of component items. The client also gravitated towards to the “Purchase Order” feature of the program, which would allow the students to generate PO’s to suppliers in the system, automatically placing orders for understocked items with a single button.

The Result:

The client felt they ultimately found much more value in the solution than they had initially set out for. They were excited to learn that Wasp Inventory Control provides all of these features as a part of the core system, and does not charge extra for modules or extensions to the existing solution. The easy navigation provided by the icon-driven interface gave our client the final confidence they needed to decide that Wasp Inventory Control was the right system for them.
